The improved performance comes from several enhancements including a larger turbocharger that enables higher boost pressure, combined with a lower 10.5 to one compression ratio.
Internal engine improvements include stronger pistons and connecting rods, as well as a nitrided crankshaft for enhanced durability. The engine benefits from oil cooling for the pistons and variable valve lift on both intake and exhaust sides, while still using Miller-cycle technology to help improve fuel economy and running on regular gasoline. The powerplant connects to an 8-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and includes standard 4MOTION all-wheel drive, providing confident traction for Alberta driving conditions.
